Home Interiors and Gifts, Inc., a direct seller of home decor products, has donated nearly $2 million to the Women Build program and has sponsored 22 homes in the United States, Canada and Mexico. Home Interiors Decorating Consultants and Employees have contributed over 30,000 volunteer hours to building these homes, with plans to build more homes in 2006. Decorating Consultants continue to raise funds for Women Build by selling products, such as candles-in-a-jar, designated specifically for Habitat for Humanity fundraisers. In addition, Christi Carter Urschel, chairman and founder of Home Interiors Charitable Foundation®, has committed all of the profits from her decorating book, Art of Accessorizing, to support the Women Build program.
The partnership between Home Interiors & Gifts and Habitat for Humanity’s Women Build program was developed in December 2003. The partnership provides an opportunity for women to learn construction skills in a supportive environment. The initiative also addresses the impact of substandard housing on the health and well-being of children.
